The Sourdough Saga has already been a rousing success. The support of the online community has been touching, and the bread itself has not only been a flavorful means of repleting glycogen, but has served as a substrate for ongoing inspiration!
Because baking sourdough is basically a metaphor for life. As previously mentioned, you must give your starter a unique name…but just like the name given to you at birth, it’s all about potential at the outset. And it seems unlikely that an amorphous and viscous blob of turpentine-scented gloop could ever become a savory success. But when given the essential foundation of starting materials and then adding in diligence, discipline, and frequent stretching, your Life’s Dough can be molded into something special.
If you try to rush the process, you end up with a lackluster lump. Patience and trust are just as essential as the yeast and flour; if these “character ingredients” are missing, you’ll end up an underbaked and unfulfilled loaf of regret.
But even if we achieve that “perfect bake,” we can’t just rest on our laurels. We must nurture the starter with fresh flour of fellowship and water of the Word so that we can continue to feed souls with uplifting and satiating encouragement.
No one said it would be easy. Sometimes you’ll feel stretched thin. And sometimes Life’s Oven will get uncomfortably hot. But if you’ve got the right Spirit-derived starter, the Master Baker will declare “Well done” in the end![]()
