
I ran into one of my former patients at the gym, and he caught me in the middle of some full-depth front squats. “Man, I haven’t been able to squat that low for a couple years, ” he lamented. “Why is that?” And I smiled and said, “Probably because you stopped doing it.” He paused, and with a twinkle in his eye, said, “You know, I hadn’t thought about it, but I think you’re right.” And then we proceeded to work on recapturing the range of motion that will make him feel more like a youthful ninja!
So with anything in life that’s suboptimal, whether it be your physical capabilities, spiritual health, marriage, or whatever else, I think it’s worth considering if you’ve simply stopped doing the thing or things that were working. Because usually if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing consistently![]()
