I initially sought some birthday inspiration from the Bible…but since Pharaoh and King Herod’s
birthday activities definitely aren’t on my agenda, I instead reflected on God’s goodness
throughout my life.
Even though my wife likes to remind me I’m “practically 40,” I really don’t feel like the big stuff
has changed much. God is faithful. He has blessed me with a beautiful family and wonderful
friends. I still love learning…and now with 3 presidential terms worth of college behind me, I
can now teach others while continuing to bask in wonder at the Creator’s majesty. And I still
love moving, running, and playing….and now coaching! However, in contrast to my 20s, each
morning is a “Day of Discovery” in which I discover new sites of musculoskeletal pain from the
previous day’s adventures. And the absurd amount of stretching required to barely retain more
flexibility than a fencepost is an endeavor of frustratingly Sisyphean proportions
And with that, I’m off to run with the Cole Valley Cross Country team!
“God gives us bodies to move and minds to learn…why would you ever want to stop?”
