Whether it stems from underlying insecurity, pervasive cynicism, general nastiness, or some malevolent multifaceted manifestation of various toxic traits, many people in our society are eager to locate “the manure in every meadow.” Even compliments are often tainted by jabs of negativity. For instance:

-Bam Adebayo scored 83 points…but he took 43 shots and they were playing against the woeful Wizards.

-Alysa Liu won the Olympic Gold Medal in figureskating…but her hair was kind of different and her gum piercing was unusual.

-The Dodgers won the World Series…but it’s only because they have more money than all the other teams.

-He’s a great clinician…for only being a Physician Assistant.

-That was a great sermon…but he mispronounced “Zerubbabel” and improperly described the aorist active imperative tense.

-That person lost some weight, improved her quality of life, and reduced her risk of cardiovascular disease…but she used (insert incretin-based medication).

So instead of undermining achievements, why not just appreciate and celebrate them?

-Bam Adebayo scored 83 points! Holy smokes!

-Alysa Liu won Olympic Gold! Incredible!

-The Dodgers won a thrilling, epic World Series!

-He’s a fantastic medical practitioner and I’m thankful for his compassionate care!

-I was incredibly encouraged by that sermon! Praise God!

-That person improved her health and is CRUSHING IT at life!

Much better🙂
