Are you better off now because you met me?
Did I truly listen in your time of need?
I cannot lie, I spoke truth, of course
But how was it uttered? With grace or blunt force?
Did I just talk, or did I really listen?
Did the sound of my voice obscure my vision?
Did I understand you? Did I really see?
Or did I just tell you to nod and agree?
Did I help calm your worries and fears?
Or were you left broken and drenched in your tears?
Did I comfort your soul and lift up your spirit?
Or does my name reopen wounds when you hear it?
When you reached out at the end of your rope
Did you walk away with a prescription for hope?
If I was gone, would I truly be missed?
Or were people just boxes checked off my list?
Was I insensitive, abrasive, and callous?
The King of an Arrogant Elitist Palace?
Or was I simply a friend, honored to meet
To anoint you with love and wash off your feet?
If you’re not better off when you asked me for help
Forgive me, I’m just a poor sinner myself.
