Peter’s arrogance before the denial

The sin that led to Israel’s exile

The reason Nebuchadnezzar became like a beast

The premature ending to Belshazzar’s feast

Is now why we have a parade

The culprit for Herod being eaten by worms

Bathing in praise that he never could earn

Uzziah’s sin leading to death as a leper

Rather than emulate Sodom, we’d better

Swallow it rather than die

And now we have orgies of hackneyed tautology

Decrying truth as archaic theology

The proverb “Pride goeth before a fall”

Applies to the righteous, the sinners, we all

Are living on borrowed time

Love is not proud.
