Being an adult is lame, and I’m pretty bad at it. Conversely, being a kid is the best!
And when you were a little kid, you probably drew some pictures littered with unidentifiable squiggles, a hodgepodge of smeared stippling, and a kaleidoscope of discordant colors that would threaten to lower one’s seizure threshold. And you probably proudly showed your parents the resultant masterpiece!
Imagine if your parents said, “That is pathetically incompetent. Once you do better, we will love you much more.” That’s hard to fathom!
Instead, I bet your parents were pleased with you. I bet they were proud that you actually used the markers you were gifted to create something. And I bet they were REALLY pleased when you showed some gratitude for the art supplies. And as you continued to create your chaotically colorful classics, the refrigerator provided continual evidence of their love for you and your “important work.”
We have a Heavenly Father who has given us more blessings than we could ever imagine, but even our magnum opuses fall woefully short of his divine transcendence. And yet, it pleases Him when His children use the gifts He has given to create and testify to the ultimate Creator. The most important work of art has already been completed on a cross-shaped canvas with sinless blood as the medium. But when we paint our puerile pictures with thankful hearts and pure intentions, I would suspect it makes Him smile😊
