On a personal level, I think Disneyland is sort of ok. Waiting in line for 45 minutes for a ride that lasts 45 seconds seems to violate reasonable principles of time stewardship (reminiscent of ARCADE-ONOMICS). My back throbs from standing in one place on unforgiving concrete. And I think Dole Whips are gross, which is probably blasphemous to all of the Pineapple Propagandists.
But watching the joy on my wife and daughter’s faces the moment we enter the Magic Kingdom instantly infuses me with wonder and awe! No amount of underwhelming sorbet or sacroiliac discomfort could detract from the enchanting experience, and it’s all because I’m spending time with the ones I love!
And as part of my job, I sometimes drive 3 hours to spend 3 minutes with physicians and health care practitioners in rural settings. I don’t particularly love traveling, my painfully petulant piriformis incessantly reminds me how much I hate sitting still, and once I arrive, the food options in these places are usually even less appetizing than Dole Whips.
But when I’m able to help clinicians better understand how to more effectively shift the paradigm from reactionary to preventive when it comes to Cardiovascular Disease, it’s all worth it!
The Happiest Place on Earth, to me, is anywhere I can share a laugh, make someone smile, help someone learn, and show that I care. I often feel like I’m stuck waiting in line or driving through the wilderness, but if I can potentially help you, I’ll do my best to make it all magically worthwhile😊
