My daughter bounded into the room with an important announcement. “I have 3 favorite feelings! You feel so good when you do these 3 things!”
I’m sure you’re as eager as I was to hear the list…here it is:
- Drinking cold water when it’s hot outside
- Taking a giant dump
- Crawling into bed after a long day
And I think we can all relate to this INTENSELY PRACTICAL list. When our tongues and souls are parched, we long for refreshment. We all experience catharsis when purging unwanted baggage; both emotional and physical constipation result in visceral discomfort. And after a day well-spent, the embrace of bedsheets and the caress of a fluffy pillow make for a delicious night of sweet dreams. Physical rejuvenation helps to restore soul-weariness and reliably brightens perspective.
From a Biblical standpoint, the list could read like this:
- “Let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
- Revelation 22:17
- “Cast your burdens on the Lord, and He will sustain you,” and “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger be put away from you.”
- Psalm 55:22 and Ephesians 4:31
- “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
- Matthew 11:28
You can’t help but feel good when you’ve got a list like this!
